Details on all workshops are below, but first – please review our policies. 

REGISTRATION & PAYMENT: 
Registration is available online beginning February 1, 2016.  Registration is not complete until payment is received.  For early registration discount, registration AND payment must be completed by Monday, Feb. 15th 2016. Registrations that are not accompanied by payment – will not receive the discount. Partial payment is accepted upon agreement. Please contact ssnow@nempacboston.org to arrange this. Registration and payment deadline for summer programs is Monday, May 30th 2016 to guarantee a spot.

Enrollment Discounts: 

  • Early Registration & Payment Discount 10% off (applicable for only one workshop)– register before Monday, February 15th, 2016. 
  • 10% sibling discount each workshop week
  • Need-based scholarships are available. Please email info@nempacboston.org for an application. Applications must be in by May 1, 2016 to be considered for funding.

Instructors: All Workshop Instructors are CORI certified. Student / Instructor ratio is 4 or 5:1 depending on enrollment. Lead teachers are CPR certified. Our lead instructors are very experienced, local conservatory graduates and arts educators in the Boston area.

Location of Workshops:  9 Hull Street in the North End and NEMPAC Studio Building (for music rehearsals). Our performance location may vary per week. We will notify you of this.

Policies: Full payment for early registration must be received by March 1st to receive the 10% discount. Sibling discount may be applied with early registration discount for only one program. Withdrawal before June 1st will cost a $30 processing fee and a full refund will be issued. Refund will not be issued after June 1st for any student that withdrawals

Wait-list: If you are on our wait-list for a program, we will notify you on June 2nd if a spot should open up for you!

Lunches:  Students must bring lunches each day for full day programs. Healthy am and pm snacks will provided for Full Day Programs (Music Theatre Weeks). Special allergies should be communicated to staff and noted on registration. Our workshops are nut free.

Safety Protocol: Our workshops occur indoors in a secure area that is locked to the public. We ask parents to sign in and sign out your child each day. Our entrance to 9 Hull Street will be attended by an instructor at all pick-up and drop-off times.  Should your schedule change or should your child be picked up by anyone other than a parent, please let a teacher know in advance of this change. Children may attend a chaperoned outdoor music workshop in the Prado (about a 60 foot walk), and occasional theatre / movement classes will be held in the Old North Church courtyard area or Prado area. Students will be supervised at all times during any excursions.

New! Summer Program Open House! We will be hosting an Open House / Question & Answer session on Tuesday, Feb 2nd between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at our NEMPAC studio building off the Prado (behind the Eliot Lower School off the Park). Our Music Theatre Workshop Program Director, Allie Meek, will be here to tell you more about the Music Theatre Workshop weeks as well. Description: Music Playgroup will introduce the exciting world of classical music to children between the ages of 5 to 8. Through games, crafts, and group activities the little musicians will learn about rhythm, notation, instruments, composers, and more! They will develop an appreciation for classical music while having fun with their peers.
What can I expect my child to demonstrate after this workshop?
  • 1. An understanding  of rhythms, notation, and how to actually listen to music
  • 2. Discover interesting facts about music history
  • 3.  Foster an appreciation for classical music

Our Full Day Week Offerings this year:

  • Week One: July 11 -15, 2016 – Ages 5 – 13  FULL, Wait List ONLY
  • Week Two: July 18 – 22, 2016 – Ages 5 – 13 WAIT LIST ONLY as of 3/10
  • Week Three: August 1 – 5, 2016 – Ages 5 – 9 – WAIT LIST ONLY

Productions: Each week students produce and perform in a production. Our productions are TBA at this time.

Weekly Schedule:

  • Monday – Thursdays 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and Fridays 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
  • Early Drop-Off at 8:30 a.m. and Late-Pick-Up at 5:00 p.m. are optional (see below)

Location: Our primary location is 9 Hull Street in the North End, and our dress rehearsal and performance space is TBA – North End, Boston.

Description:The goal of this summer program is to provide children and teens with training and exposure to all performing arts. Each week has 18 to 21 children participants. Each Music Theater Troupe member will receive training in music, dance, theater  yoga, health & fitness, and leadership training. Outdoor, public performances will conclude each week on Fridays. We will perform one musical a week, these will be announced mid-March.

Extended Care Option: Early drop-off at 8:30 a.m. ($5 per day) and late pick-up at 5 p.m. ($10 per day) available. (Monday- Thursday only)

Cost Per Week: Music Theatre :$250.00, Middle School Intensive: $325.00

Performance Information: Please note our end of the week performances are on each Friday at Noon. This will conclude our camp week.

Teen Interns: Each week of the workshop, we seek 2 interns between the ages of 13 – 17. If you are interested in volunteering for a full day at NEMPAC, please contact Sherri Snow at ssnow@nempacboston.org

Music Theatre Performance Workshop for  Middle School!
Middle School, Grades 5 – 8
July 25 – 29th – Beauty and the Beast, Musical Adaptation
This week-long intensive program from July 25th – 29th is designed for youth singers, actors and dancers who are inspired to explore their creativeness and further develop their performance skills. Available for students ages 11-13 or middle school, we will be learning more advanced music and theatre skills as well as working on our own adapted script of “Beauty and the Beast”. Students will be improving their acting, singing and dancing, which will culminate in our performance that Friday, as well as a showcase at our Thursday Night Summer Concert Series “Broadway Night” at the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park at6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity for the students to be in front of a public audience! This is a wonderful new program to reach older students wanting to continue on with the arts!
Performances:
  • Thursday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m. at the Summer Concert Series in Christopher Columbus Park
  • Friday, July 28th performance for families at Noon

NEMPAC Youth Chorus Summer 2016

Rehearsal Location: 9 Hull Street

Summer 2015: NEMPAC partnered with the Landmarks Orchestra on a special Italian Program Concert at the Hatch Shell on Wednesday, August 5th. Our singers in this program (all abilities and levels invited) learned techniques of singing including healthy production, quality of tone, ear training, listening while singing in a group, and intonation. Singers worked on Italian Music Repertoire which will be performed on August 5. Italian Language and Diction will be specialized in daily language classes. Special vocal coaches from the Landmarks Orchestra joined us during the week for workshops.

Cost: $75 Registration Fee 


Kids Dance & Movement Workshop!balletcamp1 August 8 – 12, 2016

Ages: 3 – 5

Schedule: 9:00 a..m – 12:00 p.m.

Early Drop-Off: Available at 8:30 a.m. for $5 per day

Location: 9 Hull Street

Description: Beginning dancers ages 3- 5 learn introductory dance and movement including different styles of dance. Ballet, jazz, yoga and modern styles will be practiced. Kids will become more in-tune with their bodies, how to breathe deeply, align themselves in great posture, and use their bodies to create shapes, imitate animals and explore the space around them! Students will also have art-time where different genres of dance music will inspire their creative artists within by drawing. Please bring a nut-free snack for snack time, and if you are staying for Meet the Instruments – please bring your nut-free lunch! Students should wear clothing that they can move freely in, and should bring a water bottle as well to stay hydrated! Maximum enrollment is 16 children.

Cost: $195.00  (Stay for Meet the Instruments for $325 per week. Recommended for ages 4.5+)

Meet the Instruments!library5  August 8 – 12, 2016  – WAIT LIST ONLY as of Feb 25th

Ages: 4 – 7

Schedule: 12:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m.

Late Pick Up – Available for an additional $10 per day at 5:00 p.m.

Location: 9 Hull Street

Description: Welcome back 2016! This workshop is our MOST popular for our young musicians! Be sure to reserve a spot right away as this offering is guaranteed to have a wait list. This is a workshop designed for beginning musicians to learn which instrument they love the most! Each day will feature a workshop with a different instrument family, including: Keyboard, Strings (violin, cello and viola), Guitar (acoustic, electric, banjo), percussion (including African drumming, drum kit, and street drumming), and Brass & Wood winds (saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, flute). By the end of the week, your child will know what is his/her favorite instrument! Students will be led in daily warm-ups, listening exercises and songs with our program director. They will then have a special 90 minute workshop where they will hear, touch and have a chance to play on the instrument of the day! Maximum enrollment is 16 students.

Family Music Makers: a musical experience the whole family can enjoy! For over 10 years Family Music Makers has been delivering quality music classes throughout the Boston area. Our unique repertoire is fun, engaging, and educational. The music is well-produced, smart, and appealing to both kids and their parents. Our fun, interactive classes are geared toward children 6 months to 5 years old and incorporate singing, dancing, instrumental jam sessions and more!

A hands-on live musical experience designed to introduce children to rhythm, instruments, and singing! This summer children will work with our new youth guitars, movement scarves, recorders & more! The children learn beginner note reading and participate in a wide array of interactive songs, dances, and games designed to improve their listening and motor skills and show them how to keep a beat.
