Nina Finocchiaro, vocalist, sings the National Anthem at the NEAA (North End Athletic Association) opening baseball day, Saturday April 28th, 2012. Nina takes voice lessons at NEMPAC with instructor, Sherri Snow. Ms. Snow comments, “Nina has an exceptional talent…one that she is very humble about. Her voice is powerful, soulful, and confident, one that has the potential to take her to HUGE places!

NEMPAC Student, Joey Griffith, sing the National Anthem at the Cyrus Dallin Event on April 29th, infront of Mayor Menino and the city counsel. Joey is a voice and piano student of Rebecca Rapoport-Cole.

Summer Music Theatre Program July 9th- 20th (Ages 5-15)

Summer Music Theatre Troupe:

Week One: July 9 – July 13th
Week Two: July 15- July 20th

1 week or 2 week commitment
Schedule:
Monday- Thursday 9am – 4pm
Friday: 9am -1pm, public performance 4pm on The Prado

The goal of this summer program is to provide children and
teens with training and exposure to all performing arts. Each Music Theatre Troupe
member will receive training in music, dance, theatre, yoga, health &
fitness, and leadership training.

We will have a special excursionsTuesday-Thursday of each week, as well as guest dance instructors
andperforming artists including Zumix, Improv Asylum actors, Boston Ballet instructors, Jason Escape, and more!

Student to teacher ratio will approximately be 4 : 1 (will vary
slightly based on registration) Outdoor, public performances will conclude each
week on Fridays. The production will be determined upon enrollment, but will
either be a Music Theatre Showcase or a Condensed Musical Production.

Program is open to children and teens ages 5 – 15. Children
and Teens are grouped by age. Grouping is determined by enrollment .

Optional (Monday- Thursday only)

(8:30-9am) – private lesson additional $40 a week
(4-5pm) additional $80 a week- includes a private lesson and activities

Cost per week : $195 per Troupe Member

*Early Registration- register before April 1st and receive 10% discount
Sibling Discount – 20% off for an additional sibling

1:00- 1:30 pm- Lunch
1:30 – 4:00 pm – Group Workshop on Performance – (staging, choreography, music/chorus rehearsals)

On 5/3 – The Big Apple Circus gave NEMPAC 50 tickets for our Private Music Instruction program, and lined up a question and answer session with the band director right after the 6:30 show. As you can imagine, our 50 tickets went like hotcakes. The Big Apple has offered me $40 tickets for $25 for any others who might want to come. This is a very generous offer. If you are interested, please email me back by Wednesday at 12 noon. I am allowed to bring as many folks as I can to the Q&A.
To Moms of younger kids, I plan to go myself with Leo next week one day. Because I always buy so many tickets (personally, and for the Eliot school field trips), I get their group discount. I will email again with a group rate for a daytime show for next week. Keep an eye out if you want to go, and prefer not to have a LATE bedtime).

On 5/3 - NEMPAC Jazz at the Fairmont Lobby/Lounge – Look for Scott Boni on Saxaphone, Sherri Snow on vocals, Greg deBourgknecht and Jeremy Sarzana on guitar.

On 5/4 – NEMPAC ROCKS OUT THE TASTE OF THE NORTH END! If you enjoyed the band at the Hoot and Howl, come come. Bobby has his singing voice on and is ready. If you were on the fence about coming to the Taste of the North End, get off! It’s going to be a great night of live music – and I haven’t even mentioned the food!!!!

NEMPAC (and you actually, if you’re involved in NEMPAC in any way, shape, or form) has benefitted GREATLY over the years by the generosity of The Taste of the North End.

Bring an empty stomach to the Taste of the North End, hosted by event founder Donato Frattaroli and James Luisi. Billy Costa will be the Master of Ceremonies while Dennis Seidenberg of the Boston Bruins will be honored for his charitable work with North End organizations. Guests will enjoy food from more than 35 popular eateries, and will be able to participate in silent auctions. All proceeds from the event are split between multiple non-profit organizations in the North End including elderly, education and health programs to help better then entire community. Another Big Week!

On Tuesday, April 24, Guitar Instructor, and Rock Band Instructor Jeremy Sarzana showed off by lining up and playing in 3 different bands at Johnnie’s on the Side. Showed off??? Jeremy is the most humble guy you’ll ever meet, so I’m bragging on his behalf. The 3 groups played what I’m going to call Punk Rock, Classic Rock, and Acoustic Rock respectively. The folks who were at Johnnie’s had a GREAT night of live music. Thank you Jeremy, and Thankyou Johnnie’s for hosting us.

On Friday, April 27, NEMPAC concluded our Winter Concert Series with The Scott Boni Trio at the Old North Church with an amazing performance. Thank you Scott, Tim and June. Big thanks to Sherri Snow for a wonderful concert series and to Old North Church for hosting us! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us – both by being there, and by contributing at the door. Our scholarship program has received a nice boost from these concerts.

On April 28, NEMPAC was invited to perform the National Anthem at the North End Athletic Association’s Opening Day of Baseball. Great job to Voice Student of Sherri Snow Nina Finocchiaro! Thank you to NEAA for inviting us!

On April 29, NEMPAC participated in the Cyrus Dallin Celebration Event on the Prado. Thank you to David Kubiak, and NEWRA for including us in such an grand and historic event. Congratulations and thank yous to Voice instructor Sherri Snow, Guitar instructor, Jeremy Sarzana, and Trumpet instructor (and Singer) Chris Schroeder for a great performance. Congratulations and thank yous to piano student Carlo Crocini and to guitar students Nick Shea, and Charlie Griffin for amazing performances. Congratulations and Thank you to Voice and Piano instructor Rebecca Rapoport-Cole for an amazing line up and performance by Longy Opera Master’s Degree students. Congratulations and Thank you to voice student Joey Griffith for an amazing acapella performance of the National Anthem, and to NEMPAC students Emma Bergueño, Griffin Black, and Maya Sen-Jennings for an exceptional job reading the lengthy “Paul Revere’s Ride” by H.W. Longfellow. All 4 of those kids were there also representing our fantastic neighbor The Eliot School. Thank you to everyone in the audience who participated in the sing-along of “”America” (“My country tis of thee”), with lyrics written by Reverend Samuel Francis Smith (1808-1895). Rev. Smith lived on Sheafe Street as a boy and was a student at the Eliot School. The song “America” was performed as part of the 1940 statue dedication program. And to the parents of all these kids – you should feel VERY proud!

NEMPAC hosts Carmen Auditions for upcoming Opera Production in June 2012

Carmen Auditions!

The North End Music & Performing Arts Center, is holding auditions for a full production of Carmen by Bizet. NEMPAC is looking to cast roles, covers and chorus. There will be at least two performances, as well as a school outreach performance.

Auditions: Monday, April 2nd and Tuesday, April 3rd from 6:30pm – 9pm. Please send preference for a specific date.
There is no fee to audition and an accompanist will be provided. Please prepare 2-3 selections and if possible, one selection in French.
Casting: All covers and most roles are open at this time. Covers will perform at all outreach performances.

Performances: Carmen will be performed in the last week of June, 2012 in the Boston’s historic North End.
Participation: There is a $100 participation fee for all roles and covers. This covers all musical coachings, rehearsals and performances. There is no fee for chorus participation.

Additional performances: All roles and covers may be asked to sing in NEMPAC community events. These concerts are entirely optional, but are a great way to have more singing opportunities for the wonderful and appreciative audiences of the North End- Boston!

Baubles and Bites, April 3, 2012, A Jewelry Shopping Party to benefit NEMPAC

It’s time to dig through your jewelry box and do a bit of spring cleaning. Offer your jewelry for a good cause and see if you like something your neighbor just doesn’t wear anymore! All donations are tax deductible. Donors will receive a thank you token toward recycled purchases the night of the party.

Neighborhood jewelry vendors will also be featured.

Come by the Prado on March 22 (Th) or 23 (Fri) afternoon, 3:30 to 5:30, or March 31 (Sat) morning from 10 to 12 to purchase a ticket and donate your items.

All jewelry items will be offered at great prices to spice up your accessories wardrobe just in time for spring and Mother’s Day.

Tickets are $25 per person and include appetizers. There will be a cash bar.

Children’s Courses – Spring 2012

Family Music Makers: Little Music Makers – Toddlers (ages newborn – approx 4) and their caretakers sing, dance and explore a variety of rhythm instruments with beloved instructor Laura DiGiacomo. Classes begin 3/21/12. NO CLASS APRIL 18.

Class Times:
Wednesdays: 9:30 – 10:15 am
Wednesdays: 10:30 – 11:15 am
Wednesdays: 11:30 – 12:15 pm

Wednesday Location: Lincoln Wharf function room.

Fee: $175/ten meetings, children under 6 months may attend with a sibling at no additional charge. Each time slot is contingent upon a class minimum of 6 students.

Young Children’s Yoga – This class is great for children ages 2 – 5. Yoga instructor Karen Shea is a North End mom, and co-owner of Verve Yoga. She has worked successfully with all ages right here in the North End. We are so pleased to have her! Parents are welcome to drop their children off for this course. Course begins on4/2/12. NO CLASS APRIL 16.

Mondays 3:25 pm

Location: NEMPAC building on the Prado

Fee: $150/10 classes, contingent upon a minimum of 4 students.

Children’s Yoga – This offering is geared toward children 6 – 9 years old, younger siblings are welcome to enroll as well. Caretakers will drop off their child/children. Begins 1/9/12

Mondays 4:00 pm

Location: Boston Harbor Community Church

Fee: $150/10 classes, contingent upon a minimum of 4 students.

Children’s Italian – Using an immersion technique children learn Italian by listening and repeating words and phrases as they engage in craft projects and sing along activities.

Instructor: Sonia Parravano

Wednesdays: 3:30 pm (ages 5-8)

Location: NEMPAC building on the Prado

Course begins 4/2/12.

Fee: $175/10 classes

Kids Rock Band – A 10-week music class for well behaved kids ages 5-9. Musicians of all levels are encouraged to join.

Location: Nazzaro Center, 2nd floor

2 times offered:

Saturday 9:15 a.m.
Saturday 2:30 p.m.

Classes are on a rolling basis.

Class Fee: $125/10 classes

My Gym – A beginners course in gymnastics offered by My Gym of Boston’s mobile unit. Please choose your time according to student age if possible. Next 8 week session begins 4/12/12 . If you would like to join the current session, please inquire.

Ages 2.5-4: Thurs 10:00 am

Location: Boston Harbor Community Church

Class Fee: $145/8 sessions

Musical Theater Workshop – Workshop for kids ages 7-12 includes weekly music rehearsals on several broadway chorus and solo numbers, and dance choreography to one Broadway number. Every other week, special acting class and theater games will be introduced to encourage children to explore their creativity and movement on-stage. Workshop will form a Music Theater Troupe that will perform at the Spring Recital.

NEMPAC Winter Concert Series presents an Evening of Chamber Music on Friday, March 23rd. The concert will begin at 7pm and will last about 50 minutes. This event is open to the public, and we encourage children and families to attend as well.
