About Fidelio:

In an attempt to save her husband from certain death, Leonore courageously disguises herself as “Fidelio” and takes a job as a guard in the political prison where her husband unjustly awaits execution. In a triumphant finale, Leonore succeeds in rescuing Florestan and exposes the jail’s corruption. With an inventive dramatic structure, soaring score, and captivating heroine, Beethoven’s only opera—an ode to human dignity—explores themes of love, bravery, and resilience in the face of adversity.

NEMPAC Opera Project is a proud member of the Boston Opera Alliance.

About The NEMPAC Opera Project

Founded in 2011 and partnered with the Boston Opera Alliance, the mission of the NEMPAC Opera Project is to serve Boston’s community of singers, instrumentalists and artistic staff, as well as the general public by providing affordable and accessible opera in urban Boston. In an effort to challenge the boundaries of what a theatre space “has” to be, the NEMPAC Opera Project has sought to use exclusively non-traditional spaces. In our first year, we took the provocative work of Bizet’s Carmen to St. Paul’s Cathedral in downtown Boston. Thanks to the support of the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park and the City of Boston Department of Special Events and Tourism we have been able to provide a free, community outreach performance of each opera production to our community. In 2013, we performed Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte in Boston’s Faneuil Hall. The production was so successful in this space, that we were delighted to bring our 2014, English production of Die Fledermaus to Faneuil Hall’s – The Great Hall. This magnificent venue has now become the performance home for the NEMPAC Opera Project. In the last three years, we have had over 5000 people come to see our NEMPAC Opera Productions, some being exposed to opera for the first time.
